Sperm Samples
A sperm sample may be required for the following reasons:
|
Delivery of a sperm sample to the IVF lab |
|
Semen analysis in the andrology lab. |
Where?
- Sperm samples for examination, insemination or donation: CRG Andrology lab, level +2; Children's Hospital (entrance 3 of UZ Brussel).
- Sperm samples for IVF/ICSI fertilization: via ward VP03 at the CRG, level+1 Children's Hospital of UZ Brussel.
- In exceptional circumstances, you may be permitted to produce the sample at home. It must then be brought to ward VP03 within an hour and be kept at body temperature during that time. For this, you have to make an appointment beforehand with the Andrology Laboratory (see long list, right colom)
When?
- The andrology lab is open every work day from 8 am to 3 pm. Please make an appointment and simply report to the lab at the time stated. You will discreetly be provided with a private room with a bed, sink and toilet.
- Sperm samples for use in an IVF or ICSI programme will of course be timed to be available at the same time as your partners' egg cells.
How?
It is vital that you catch all of the ejaculate in the container. If this is not the case, you must report this when handing over the sample. It could affect the results of your examinations/investigations. |
A fresh sperm sample is produced through masturbation. Good hygiene is very important. You must wash your hands and penis with soap and water before producing the sample. You will be required to catch the ejaculate in the special sterile container provided. We have special discreet rooms at the centre for use when producing sperm samples. Your partner may assist you in the production of a sample if you wish.
Administration
You will need to bring your
white badge. This is you identification as a patient at UZ Brussel. If you do not have your badge, you will need to obtain a replacement at the registration desk in the entrance hall of UZ.
With samples for examination, don't forget to bring the completed request form from your doctor (
download) otherwise the examination cannot take place.
